Detailed Hiking Description:

• Day 1:
  • Travel
  • Accommodation: Tusnádfürdő, Jókai u. 22., Violin Pension
  • Recommended program along the way:
    • Transfăgărășan: Bâlea Lake – Bâlea Waterfall – at 2080 m elevation. One of the world's most beautiful drivable mountain roads. In winter, the road is closed due to heavy snow until it melts; you can reach the mountain ridge by cable car.
• Day 2:
  • Full-day jeep tour in the mountains. (The exact starting location and time need to be arranged by phone the previous day.)
    • 100 years back in time. This is not an off-road tour, but a driving experience – we drive on old cart roads. We stop everywhere the view is beautiful. We pick blueberries, raspberries, wild strawberries, and blackberries.
  • Visit to a mountain pasture
    • Traditionally, from St. George's Day to St. Michael's Day, shepherds graze on the mountain – here they milk the cows, and here they make fresh cheese, whey, and cottage cheese, which you can taste with some homemade bread and bacon.
  • Cheese tasting
    • Sheep cheese, cottage cheese, whey, and cottage cheese with homemade bacon and bread are served.
  • Village visit
    • Csinód – a small mountain village in the Úz Valley, where people still live a self-sufficient life.
  • Lunch at a local Csángó family’s house
    • We sit down in the family's kitchen – the lady of the house serves a three-course lunch, with coffee and brandy (unlimited serving).
• Day 3:
  • Visiting local natural attractions with your own vehicle:
    • Lake Saint Anna, Mohos Peat Bog, Torjai Stinky Cave, Apor Girls’ Spring...
  • Leave your car in the guarded parking lot at Lake Saint Anna, and from there walk down a forest road for about 1 km to the lake – here they sell Transylvania's finest chimney cake – don't miss out! In summer, there are boating opportunities on the lake.
    • Plan about 2.5 - 3 hours for the lake.
    • Lake Saint Anna is located HERE.
  • Guided tours in the Mohos Peat Bog are available hourly or every two hours depending on the season – an interesting program for both children and adults alike.
    • You will find it opposite the parking lot of Lake Saint Anna.
    • The program lasts 1 hour.
  • The Torjai Stinky Cave is Europe's largest gas-producing mofetta – you can walk up a beautifully marked tourist trail. The round-trip walk takes about 1.5 hours at a comfortable pace.
    • The road leading to the Torjai Stinky Cave starts from the Gastrolab Restaurant.
  • Apor Girls’ Spring – located between the Grand Hotel and Bálványos Bath. Here, numerous springs with different healing properties spring to the surface, a true world rarity.
  • Recommendations:
    • Have lunch at the Gastrolab Restaurant – you will find it next to the parking lot on the road leading to the Stinky Cave – the restaurant belongs to the Grand Hotel Bálványos.

    • Have lunch at the Vár Panzió in Bálványos Bath – they prepare traditional Székely dishes here – a tavern atmosphere awaits you.

  • Bear Watching: 17:30 – 19:30 (the time needs to be arranged the day before!)
